ICE2024 is coming to the Sultanate of Oman! On behalf of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Organizing Committee, I am delighted to welcome you to Muscat where we have the honour of hosting the first AAPG International Conference and Exhibition (ICE) event in the Middle East. We are thrilled to have you here for this international event which brings together geoscientists and petroleum industry professionals with diverse backgrounds to deliver a strong global technical program that will help unleash new discoveries, expedite their development, and serve as a platform to shape our contribution as geoscientists to the world’s future energy requirements.
This year’s conference theme, “The role of geosciences in shaping our energy future”, will showcase how the future of energy is being shaped through diversification and transformation of geological disciplines to address the evolving energy landscape and our adaptation as we strive to achieve carbon neutrality. A key enabler is the advances in digitalization and technologies in transforming our ways of working to unlock the subsurface faster and more effectively. An equally important enabler is the repurposing of skills to cater for the requirements the evolving energy ecosystem will demand. As such, an outstanding technical program is being assembled, with global participation of abstracts, notable keynote speakers, panel discussions, and workshops promises to bring a global perspective that you will find diverse and enriching.
Additionally, Oman has world class outcrops with the opportunity to attend fieldtrips to ophiolites and the Moho, as well as the oldest petroleum systems in the world. Such a unique setting is a strong appeal for all professionals to make it a universally attractive venue. We have also included an international pavilion for NOCs, ministries, and government agencies to host and showcase a broad spectrum of energy business opportunities.
The committee has a strong young professionals’ presence, a reflection of the youthful and dynamic demographics of the region, and they will bring a rich program of activities for YPs and students that is driven by their needs and outlook. The event will be a great opportunity to meet professionals, develop new relationships and networking opportunities as well as gain new insights and learn the latest developments in geosciences.
