The Late Cretaceous shallow-water carbonates of the Natih Formation are among the most prolific reservoirs in Oman and the surrounding region. These rocks are well exposed in the Al Jabal Akhdar to Adam Foothills region in Northern Oman. This field trip aims to explore Jebel Madmar, one of the best locations for observing the complete Natih Formation and the different facies of the Natih-e member. We will discuss the development of intra-platform basins in the Cretaceous and the distribution of source rock, seal, and reservoir facies. Participants will have the opportunity to see basinal source rocks to shoal grainstone deposits and the effect of cyclicity, facies, diagenesis, and fractures on reservoir quality.
